CVS Health is pulling from its shelves some cough-and-cold treatments that contain an ingredient that has been deemed ineffective by doctors and researchers. The drug store chain said it will remove a small number of products that contain phenylephrine as the only active ingredient.

In September the IOOF held their annual state meeting in Rapid City. Every year a person is chosen as Oddfellow of the year. This person is chosen by majority vote. This year, Alisa Schmitz was the winner. The winner is given the chance to choose a charity of their choice to give a $250.00 donation to. Not only that, but the Gregory 100F Lodge #189 was also the winner of Lodge of the Year for the state of South Dakota. A $500.00 check is given to the lodge to be used how they see fit. In honor of cancer awareness month, and just because cancer has an impact on so many of our lives. Both checks were given to The Pink Ladies.

Burke VFW Post Commander Denny Pense was recently named an All-American Post Commander. Under Pense’s leadership the VFW was recognized for being an All-American Post, one of a select group of VFW posts honored as such each year.

South Dakota always seems to come alive in autumn. The air is crisp and cool, the leaves on the trees change to create a colorful masterpiece, and our farmers are preparing to harvest their crops. But there is one particular part of fall in South Dakota that has always put our state on the map. It’s an iconic South Dakota tradition that we’re known for worldwide: pheasant hunting.
