As firefighters extinguish some wildfires, others ignite

As of reports Monday morning, the fires we reported on last week— Morrill, Road 203, Anderson Bridge, and Cottonwood—are now considered 100% contained. Two new fires, however, started overnight Wednesday, March 25, in Grant County, NE, northeast of the Morrill Fire.
4th Annual Bunny Hunt was held

The 4th annual Bunny Hunt was held in Colome, SD, on Saturday March 28th. 104 kids, ranging in ages from 5 to 14, participated in the event. The younger group had to provide three bunnies, while the older group had to bring five bunnies to qualify. The event was held at the Colome Legion and is run by Josh and Kayla Olson.

John Harter, a lifelong South Dakotan, rancher, and farmer from the Winner/Colome area in Tripp County, announced his candidacy for the South Dakota House of Representatives in District 21. A Republican, Harter aims to deliver principled conservative leadership and a farmer’s voice to Pierre.
Firefighters still busy fighting wildfires

Firefighters are gaining the upper hand on the wildfires in Nebraska and South Dakota. The Morrill Fire in western Nebraska was 98% contained as of March 22.
Gregory Athletics Club hosts East-West Shootout

The Gregory Athletics Club hosted the 33rd Annual East - West Shootout on Monday, March 23, 2026. The event features area high school seniors and gives them a chance to have a night of fun on the court playing together with friends, whom are sometimes rivals during the regular season.
