    Honored veterans to lead Gregory’s 4th of July parade

    In honor of our country’s 250th birthday, this year’s July 4th parade marshals will be several local veterans who have been Legion members for 50 or more years. They are as follows: Gregory Legion Vince Berens, 73 years, Army Elmer Karl, 72 years, Army Ron Shattuck, 61 years, Army Denny Miner, 61 years, Army Dick Shaffer, 56 years, Army Bob Shaffer, 52 years, Air Force Gerald Gergen, 51 years, Army Dallas Legion Curtis Kerner, 50 years, Army Parade entries will line up on Park Road and begin the procession on 13th Street to Rosebud Avenue.

    Lynndi Kahler begins her fight with neuroblastoma cancer

    On June 4, 2026, Katie Kahler posted on Facebook from Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls (the Castle). She and her husband Brandon were there with their youngest daughter, 20-month-old Lynndi, who has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer.

    AARP awards $15,000 grant to help transform downtown Gregory

    What started as an idea around a board table more than two years ago is beginning to take shape. The Gregory Economic Development Group (GED) has been awarded a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge Grant to help develop the Downtown Gregory Parkette, a project designed to turn a vacant Main Street lot into a welcoming gathering place for residents and visitors of all ages.

    Gregory County 4-H riders shine at 2026 horse show

    Gregory County 4-H held the 2026 Horse Show on Wednesday, June 24, at the Burke Rodeo Arena. This year’s show featured 16 youth participants, including four seniors, six juniors, and six beginners. Throughout the day, excitement buzzed in the air. Youth were excited to compete in their events. This year, there were two judges-Kacy Goehring and Hailey Haiar. Both judges provided feedback to the kids with various pointers on how to improve. This year, All-Around recipients included: Liam Sutton (Beginner), Sadie Andrews (Junior), and Morgan Peck (Senior). Gregory County 4-H would like to congratulate all participants in the horse show for their hard work and dedication as well as the parents and volunteers that make our events a success.

    4-H Summer Program Offers Hands-On Learning Opportunities for Local Youth

    Gregory County 4-H members explored their creativity during a jewelry-making workshop on June 2 led by Erin Schulte. Participants selected colorful beads and designed their own necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The activity allowed members to express their Gregory County 4-H members spent June 26 practicing their roping skills during a dummy roping session. Participants worked on building confidence and improving technique in preparation for upcoming rodeos. Whether learning the basics or gaining additional practice, members had the opportunity to sharpen their skills while enjoying a fun and educational experience.
