Strengthening SD’s workforce

South Dakota’s jobs market is booming. Our unemployment rate is the lowest in America. Businesses are moving to our state in large numbers. But we’re always looking for ways to continue to the state’s workforce. We want businesses to be able to hire the right talent to fill the openings that they have available. Both through targeted recruitment campaigns and investments in higher education, South Dakota is working to capitalize on our strong economic position and set our state up for even more success far into the future.

Ranch group warns of impending perfect storm

The live cattle supply chain from which beef is produced is multisegmented. The largest and most widespread segment – in terms of number of market participants – are cow/calf producers that maintains mother cows and produces new calves each year. The next largest segment by market participants is the yearling segment in which cattle farmers and ranchers prepare yearling-age cattle for the final and smallest segment by volume of producers, the feeding segment. This last segment feeds cattle to harvest weight and sells them directly to the beef packer that produces beef. Though they are few, some ranchers are involved in all segments and sell beef directly to consumers.

A Note From Cottonwood Corners

The historic islands, landmarks, Indian villages and agencies, trading posts, Lewis and Clark camp sites, forts, steam boat landings, individual home sites, churches, cemeteries, individual graves, and towns close to the river above the Fort Randall Dam have all disappeared. They are now only a distant memory in our mind, a faded picture, or the printed word in a newspaper or book.
