Another born and raised hometown professional returns to Winner, SD. Winner Regional Health announces the hiring of Chelsea Hennebold Bern, APRN, CNP. She will be joining Winner Regional Health on August 15, 2022, and begin seeing patients shortly thereafter. Mrs. Bern graduated from Winner High School in 2005. She joins the Winner Regional Health team with vast experience in surgery and cardiothoracic care. Mrs. Bern graduated from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD, in 2008 with a certificate as a surgical technician. She began her career at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls in 2008 as a surgical technician while attending the University of South Dakota to get her bachelors of science in nursing. After receiving her degree in 2012, she worked for the University of South Dakota Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, in the intensive care unit (ICU) until 2018. Since 2018, Mrs. Bern has been employed with the Sanford Cardiothoracic Surgery Group in Sioux Falls. During her tenure at Sanford Cardiothoracic Surgery Group, she completed her masters of science as a certified nurse practitioner.

Last week, Winner Regional Health hosted the blood drive in Winner, SD, in collaboration with LifeServe Blood Center at the city office building. On Wednesday, there were 37 donors and 38 lifesaving units of blood donated, while on Thursday, there were 34 donors and 32 units of blood donated. In total, 71 donors provided 70 units of blood which will help save the lives of 210 hospital patients. While the numbers were a bit lower than those from the previous blood drive, it is not uncommon for the summer to be one of the most difficult times of the year to secure donors, as everyone’s schedules are so full with vacations, outdoor activities, etc.

A wildfire that started last week west of Oglala has burned about 11 square miles and is 40% contained, according to officials. The fire began near Prairie Wind Casino on the evening of July 19 and moved southeast.

Gregory County 4-H held a cooking workshop called “Chaos in the Kitchen”. This workshop was held at the Burke Civic Center from 1- 3 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022. The youth learned how to cook an entire meal from the salad to the desert. They made a salad, spaghetti, cheesy garlic bread, and a cake. They youth all did a great job and they all had a lot of fun.
